Ron Paul Breaks With Son, Rand Paul On Islamic Cultural Center Opposition

Well, I guess Daddy took Junior to the woodshed. There still are a few good things to come out of the Libertarian movement. Shut my mouth! I never thought I would say (or write) that out loud.

Sarah Palin: NBC Broke Promise To Me, Example Of 'Lamestream' Media

Aww!! Wittle Sawah gots hers feelins hurt.

Since when does anyone get to dictate what goes into the final cut? If every media outlet, old or new, agreed to that, they should roll up the part that says 'news' and just call it the xxxxx's mouthpiece. If every politician acted like this we'd have a Congress and 50 Statehouses that look like they are run by children...uh...let me rephrase that. We'd have a Congress and 50 Statehouses that are less functional than they are now.

The NBC needs to get Tina Fey back on to SNL. This is too good to pass up. There would be millions rolling on the floor laughing.

Lieberman's Citizenship-Revoking Law Slammed As 'Draconian'

Once again, Sen. Joe is trying to shred the Constitution a little more than it already has been and stampede people into doing things based on that unreasoning fear of "The Others". Why is it that any time a person of Middle Eastern descent or African descent or Hispanic descent does EXACTLY the same thing as a person of Western European descent, we want to do all sorts of despicable things to them and, in the process, compromise our own rights. For example. When Timothy McVeigh bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City, we didn't hear Joe or Peter King call for not reading him his Miranda Rights or shipping him to Guantanamo or stripping him of his citizenship.

Why is it that when the moron who flew his airplane (gee, doesn't that pretty well duplicate 9/11) into the building where the IRS rented space, we didn't hear Lindsay Graham or Sen. Joe wanting to strip anyone of citizenship who commits an act of terror. Or ship them to Gitmo. Or not read them their Miranda rights. Yes, I know he was dead and no longer a threat, but this guy is in custody and no longer a threat either.

Suffice it to say that, while the evidence is not strong enough to be conclusive, there certainly seems to be the whiff of racism in the air.

On Cesar Chavez Day, Recognizing Farm Workers

Please don't speak with food in your mouth. Cesar Chavez did more to improve the working conditions for agricultural workers than anyone alive. Things like port-a-potties in the fields so that the workers didn't have to defecate by the vegetables that you are eating right now that would then have a much greater risk of having the bacteria that causes food poisoning in it. Or like putting soap and water out with the prot-a-potties so that the workers could was their hands after using the facilities to keep from spreading the same bacteria. Or having drinking water supplied to the workers within 1/4 of a mile from where they are working so that they didn't fall over and die from heat stroke. I could go on, but based upon the snarky tone of the statement above, you're not really interested, you just have some other axe to grind.

On Cesar Chavez Day, Recognizing Farm Workers

I was an agricultural worker attorney before I retired. I had the great honor of meeting Dolores Huerta at a national conference in Atlanta. Cesar Chavez's work was a great step forward. for the abused and maligned farmworkers, most of whom are Hispanic and many of whom are brought into this country illegally by coyotes who are paid by the large growers across the US. The reason they bring the workers in illegally, even though there are legal channels to bring them in, is that they don't want them to complain about the horrific working conditions so they threaten them that if they complain, they will call "Migracion" (US Customs and Immigration) which will effectively kill any hope of coming into the US legally since a deportation frequently imposes a 10 year or, for repeat violators, permanent bar to a valid work permit in the US.

Cesar Chavez did so much for Hispanic farmworkers that it would be nice to have even just a day of national recognition for him, if a holiday is not possible. I applaud your sentiment and support your crusade.

When War is Unjust Should Soldiers Just Say No?

Wow! This is powerful stuff. I am still trying not to cry. These kids are going through what we went through in Viet Nam, only they don't call it a draft anymore, they call it "opportunity'. The opportunity to go to college if you kill your quota of people who may or may not have done you or your fellow soldiers or countrymen any harm. Some of the ones who have done you harm have done so because you were ih their country propping up a corrupt leader who abuses his position daily. Thus they feel like they are defending their children and wife.

War is a hellish thing. I have done that and never gotten over it.. It is particularly hellish when you find out that your leaders have been lying to you about the motivations for the war. Like WMD or the Pentagon Papers. Is it any wonder that veterans are committing suicide at such an astonishing rate? Please stop the war and bring out kids home. the next time we go to war, the people who make that decision should be required to send their children to fight alongside the poor and working class kids. Fair is fair.
